About the Sailmaker:
Connie Berchem has been making sails and sail repair since 1982. She first began Fort Lauderdale, than joined UK Sailmakers in 1988 with a loft in St. Thoams and quickly became the top sailmaker in the Caribbean, for her quality, design, construction and customer service. Her high quality sails come from many years of experience on the open waters. First as a Charter Yacht Captain, then a sailing Olympic hopeful in 1992, trimmer aboard "Midnight Sun" winner at the 333 mile Chicago/Mackinac Race, won the silver medal trimming at the U.S. Offshore Championship, Sail Repair Loft of an America's Cup campaign, any many more. Her sails have circumnavigated the globe and won national championships. Connie still spends her weekends sailing on the lakes of North Carolina and traveling all over the country for regattas.
Over the years, Connie has also given back to the sport of sailing by starting a youth program called KATS (Kids at the Sea) on St. John, USVI and hosted the Pursuit Of Sailing Regatta on Lake Norman for years with proceeds benefiting handicap sailors, as well as weekend sailing lessons for new skippers.
