More about Blue Sage Massage

Welcome to my page! I have been practicing as a Licensed Massage Therapist in Missoula for five years and have continued to grow and love what I do every year. I specialize mostly in Deep tissue, but am also trained in Swedish, Lomi Lomi, Myofascial release, Hot and Cold Stone Therapy and Reiki I. Please feel free to call or email me with any questions. Below I have included a short description of the services I offer and their benefits.

Deep Tissue: Deep tissue massage therapy is similar to Swedish massage, but the deeper pressure is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints).

Swedish:The most common type of massage. It involves soft, long, kneading strokes, as well as light, rhythmic, tapping strokes, on topmost layers of muscles. This is also combined with movement of the joints. By relieving muscle tension, Swedish therapy can be both relaxing and energizing.

Lomi Lomi: best known for long, flowing, dance-like strokes, often using the forearms and generous amounts of oil. But, because there are so many styles, the specifics of a massage can vary. Gentle stretches and joint rotations are common in this massage, as is the massage therapist massaging two parts of your body at same time, for example, using one hand or forearm on your shoulder while simultaneously massaging a hip with the other hand or forearm. The physical benefits of this massage are the same as other types of massage in terms of relaxing muscles, promoting circulation and releasing blocked energy.

Myofascial Release: a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion.

Hot and Cold Stone Therapy: Hot Stone Massage involves the use of polished, heated, stones applied to the body using long, flowing massage strokes. The hot stones bring about local and systemic changes in the body through thermal conduction, expanding the blood vessels, pushing blood and unwanted waste materials through the body. This has a relaxing, sedative effect on the nervous system, allowing muscle tissue to soften and relax. Cold stones are alternated with the hot stones during stone massage to create thermo-therapeutic effects to help the body detoxify and heal. The cold stones cause the blood vessels to constrict, stimulating the nervous system and drawing blood and waste products though the system and out of the body. Cold stones can also be very beneficial in the treatment of inflammation and muscular injury.

Reiki: a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
