Bluegrass Ear, Nose, & Throat was established in 1990 and is the solo Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery practice of Dr. Albert Speach. Originally the office was located at the Saint Joseph Office Park in Lexington, Kentucky and remained there for 17 years. In 2007 Bluegrass ENT moved to its present location at 3080 Harrodsburg Road (Corporate Plaza Center) Lexington, Kentucky. Bluegrass ENT has satellite locations in Georgetown and Richmond, Kentucky. Our Lexington office manages all appointments and maintains all medical records.

Dr. Speach hails from Syracuse, New York, but has been a Kentucky resident for 21 years. He graduated with Bachelors in Biology in 1978 from Lemoyne College, Syracuse, NY. With minors in Chemistry, Philosophy & English. 1984 he obtained his Doctor of Medicine Degree from State University of New York Medical School, Syracuse, NY... Dr. Speach fulfilled his Residency and Internship in General Surgery and Otolaryngology at Millard Fillmore Hospital, Buffalo, NY. & North Carolina Baptist Hospital – Wake Forest University Medical, Winston-Salem, NC, respectively achieving Chief Resident, Otolaryngology 1988-1989.

Dr. Speach was an associate professor at the University Of Kentucky School Of Medicine, Department of Otolaryngology until 1990 at which time he established his private solo practice now known as Bluegrass Ear, Nose & Throat.

Dr. Speach is an avid and accomplished golfer, as is his entire family. He and his wife have three children and reside in West Jessamine County, KY. They are active members of their local community, schools and church.

Karen Kallio, Dr. of Audiology, joined our practice in late September of 2011 after making the long move from Petoskey, Michigan. She is a Doctor of Audiology with 13+ years of experience. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology from West Virginia University in 1996 and her Masters of Science Degree in Audiology from the University of New Mexico in 1998. In 2006, Karen earend her Doctorate of Audiology from A.T. Still University of Health Sciences.

In addition, Karen holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech Language Hearing Association, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology, and a member of the Kentucky Academy of Audiology. Karen holds both a Michigan and Kentucky Audiologist and Hearing Instrument Specialist license. She has experience with all patient populations from infant to geriatrics. She resides in Lexington with her husband and their two boys Joshua and Tristan. She loves traveling, the beach, baking, cross stitching, and the great outdoors.
