What I believe is this.
If it is fun, if it is exciting, if it brings you joy, you will do it.
To me, that just makes sense. I tend to not use the word “practice”.
As a rule, I encourage my students to “play”. Who doesn’t want to play? Music is fun, it is exciting, and it is joyous!
What I have learned is this.
If my students are playing the music they love, they will play.
That is the important thing. Whether it is rock, country, metal, folk....whatever the style, that is secondary.
All styles of music can be thoughtfully created, and re-created, and can challenge us, which is how we, as musicians, grow.
I am a guitarist, songwriter, and teacher of guitar and songwriting.
Music is my lighthouse.
