My Name is Sandy Bechard and I am a certified Vinyasa flow Yoga instructor.
I was introduced to Yoga 13 years ago by Iyengar teacher Jennifer Cooper at The Yoga Center of Portland, ME. I started yoga to relieve stress and found the practice to do that and much more. Jennifer taught a strong foundation in the Iyengar method.
After attending meditation workshops by Shri Anadi Ma I finally experienced meditation and have been practicing every since.
In 2010 I gave Power Yoga a try. I loved the vigorous flow, breathe and heat of this practice. Shortly after that I began practicing at Greener Postures Yoga where Heated Vinyasa Flow Yoga is taught. This style of yoga spoke to me. The variety of poses, music, heat and community was a perfect fit. The message behind each class that Heidi MacVane and Danielle Morin taught was empowering. The studio offered a 200 hour teacher training program taught by Master Vinyasa Teacher Jacqui Bonwell. I began my training in January of 2011 and became certified in May. The experience changed my life physically, mentally and spiritually. I will continue my training in Yoga as I begin teaching. Humor has always gotten me through challenges life. In teaching the challenging practice of Vinyasa Yoga I frequently add a little humor to assist!
Since finishing my teacher trainiing I have furthered my studies with workshops with Ame Wren and a five day intensive with internationally renowned Seane Corn. I am looking forward to studying with Seane for a week in May as well.
Currently I am teaching at The Breathing Room in South Portland Maine and you can find me subbing from time to time at Greener Postures Yoga as well.
I often do alignment workshops for both the beginner pratitioner as well as the more experienced. Coming from an Iyengar background I feel alignment is imparative to stay free from injury.
I am always looking for new places to share my love and knowledge of yoga. If you are in need of a substitute or permanent teacher a private lesson or a group lesson I would love to be considered and happy to meet with you.
Namaste
Sandy Bechard
