More about Boyd Funeral Services, LLC

Doreen A.Boyd was born in Camden, New Jersey on December 16, 1945 at West Jersey Hosptial. A life-long resident of Camden, Doreen was educated in the Camden City Public School System as she attended Lincoln Elementary School, Cooper B. Hatch Middle School and was a proud graduate of Camden High School Class of 1963. After High School, Doreen furthered her education by attending Camden County College and Glassboro State College, where she obtained her Associate and Bachelors Degree respectively in Education and Social Studies. While attending college, Doreen worked at the Campbell Soup Company. Upon the completion of her college studies and the obtaining of its merits, Doreen continued to strive, move forward and decided to accept the challenge of full-filling her life long dream of becoming a funeral director. She applied and was accepted to the American Academy of McAllister Institute of Funeral Science in New York. Her committment was unwavering and passion was strong. On September 7, 1973 Doreen graduated from McAllister Institute of Funeral Services. She became board certified to conduct Mortuary Science on December 23, 1974. Under the guidance of various funeral directors in the Tri-State area, Doreen was provided the oppurtunity to complete her apprenticeship, enhance her mortuary skills and display her leadership in providing mortuary sciences. For those who helped her accomplish those feats, she was always eternally grateful. In 1993, Doreen's dream was fulfilled-she celebrated the Grand Opening of Boyd's Funeral Home in Camden, NJ as the sole proprietor and operator of the business. This was a very proud moment for her, as well as for her family who watched as Doreen work tirelessly everyday, but never losing focus of her goals. Furthering her career, Doreen became the first African-American female to be employed by the Camden County Coroner's Office as a medical examiner. Her commitment to her community exemplified her service as a Camden City Committee woman. Her generosity and compassion was exuded in her service to the bereaved families she encountered and through her selflessness to provide food baskets and toys to those in need during the holiday season.Doreen's contribution to the city will forever be remembered and her legacy continued through our families effort to keep her dream alive.
