Established in 1954, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme (BGCOP) is a nonprofit 501(c) (3) youth service organization. The Mission of BGCOP is “to inspire and enable all youth, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential, as productive, responsible and caring citizens”. The BGCOP is a member of the national organization Boys & Girls Clubs of America. The BGCOP is a membership organization. Annual member dues is $20.00 however, no one is turned away regardless of ability to pay.
Two-thirds of our members are ages 8 to 13. Seventy percent are Hispanic/Latino, 10% African-American, 5% Caucasian, 3% Asian and 0.4% Native American. Of those members, 49% percent are girls and 51% are boys. Seventy-eight percent live in low-income families and qualify for reduced-price lunch programs. Sixty percent live in households headed by a single female.
Services are provided in freestanding clubhouses in Oxnard and Port Hueneme and includes a dedicated Teen Center, 12 public school program sites, 1 satellite site in Nyeland Acres, 1 site at a Squires Public Housing, and the first Boys & Girls Club in a juvenile hall in the State of California. The BGCOP serves an additional 5,100 youth through community activities, sports and special initiatives.
