The Brentwood Firecracker 5k Run was the dream of the late Mayor Jim Joyce and Jim Rohm. The race kicked off the huge celebration and provided additional revenue for the parade/fireworks. When former Mayor Ron Arnoni and Race Director Janice Boyko assumed the leadership in 1998, the tradition continued. Each year the race donates a sizeable contribution to the 4th of July Committee and a rotating charity (Special Olympics, American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, MS, and the Salvation Army, to name a few).
When Mayor Ken Lockhart came aboard, we continued to provide a first class event and distribute our proceeds. Our main benefactor remains the 4th of July Committee. Since 2007, the Disabled Veterans has become our designated charity. In addition, several local organizations and a Brentwood scholarship are awarded.
In 2016, financial support was given to the Brentwood Food Bank, 4th of July Committee, Brentwood Library, Brentwood High School & Drop the Puck on Cancer
