More about Brightmoor Community Center

The Brightmoor Community Center (BCC) was organized by land developer B.E. Taylor in 1922, three years prior to the area’s annexation by the City of Detroit. In its early years, the center was operated to meet the social and recreational needs of area residents, many of whom were transplants to the area in pursuit of work in area auto plants. BCC was one of the first settlement houses in America. BCC is housed on over one acre of land with over 10,000 sq. ft. operational space. This year the Brightmoor Community Center celebrates 91 years of continuous service to Northwest Detroit and specifically the Brightmoor community. In the summer of 2014 high school students in collaboration with the College for Creative Arts rescued an additional 2 acres of blight to create AAA Butterfly Park a tranquil gathering place for Brightmoor residents.
