Broadway In Detroit - The Fisher Theatre and more!

Broadway In Detroit’s beginnings herald back to 1912 when David Tobias (D.T) Nederlander began operating the original Detroit Opera House with the Shubert Brothers. Through the years, the Nederlander family operated several Detroit area theatres including the Shubert Theatre, the Cass Theatre and the Riviera. It was the Fisher Theatre’s 1961 renovation into a legitimate Broadway house that brought the Nederlanders their greatest audiences, rocketing the Fisher’s subscription base into the largest in the country at the time. Over the past 50 years the Nederlander organization has gone on to become one of the biggest names on Broadway, at one time controlling nine Broadway theatres with operations across the US, Canada and Great Britain.

Under the Nederlander organization, Broadway In Detroit continues to present the best Broadway productions at the Fisher Theatre and other Detroit area venues including the Detroit Opera House. Past productions have featured Broadway’s biggest names such as Carol Channing, Zero Mostel, Robin Givens, Richard Chamberlain, Molly Ringwald, John O’Hurley and more. The Fisher Theatre has hosted the world tour premieres of such Broadway hits as Hello Dolly!, Fiddler On The Roof and Sweet Charity as well as the launch of many national tours including Billy Joel’s Movin Out and the recent West Side Story revival.

The upcoming 51st season of Broadway entertainment at the Fisher Theatre brings the biggest hits to Detroit yet again, with multiple Tony Award® winning productions; the Broadway blockbuster, The Book of Mormon; the return of Jersey Boys, Disney’s The Lion King and Disney’s Mary Poppins; and the pre-Broadway engagement of the Jekyll & Hyde revival starring Constantine Maroulis and Deborah Cox.
