More about Broken Shoe Ranch

Broken Shoe Ranch was started by Van Mizell in 1979 when he purchased land in Maryland and built his custom home on it. On that property, he raised long horn cattle and he competed roping horses in Amateur and Open rodeos. Mizell made his move which would put him on top with the purchase of "Romeo Rascal" in 1986. It was then that he was driving through Texas when he came across a big, tobiano yearling colt standing in the pasture. Mizell pulled right up to the property, made the inquiry that would end up putting him on top of the charts.

"Romeo Rascal" has proven himself in every class that he has been presented. Some of his accomplishments are listed below:

Mizell and family raised and bred World Champion Paint horses and Quarter horses since the establishment of Broken Shoe Ranch. He was also a farrier and a rodeo judge all the while. With Mizell's herd diminishing, his daughter, Cody Burton, has continued the Broken Shoe Ranch family-operated business at her branch location in Kentucky. With the solid all-around foundation that the family provided Burton, she has expanded the operations to focus on beginner riding lessons, colt starting, and fundamental training.

The Kentucky branch of Broken Shoe Ranch is owned and operated by Cody Burton and her husband, Robert. They accept clients on a routine basis for beginner riding lessons, colt starting, imprinting and fundamental training, sale prep and refresher training. Services are offered on site or off.
