The BCHS is a private, non-profit, open-admission animal shelter that accepts all of Brown County's stray and homeless cats and dogs. All animals that come to the shelter are re-homed, regardless of how long it takes and no animals are euthanized due to lack of space or funds. We hold the Brown County Animal Control contract, but we are not a government agency and receive no funds from any national animal welfare organizations. We are not associated with the Humane Society of the United States. Our community outreach program has reduced the number of animals coming into the shelter by 49% in four years and the BCHS has been nationally recognized as a successful rural shelter with an outstanding live-release rate of 95%, compared to a national average of 50%.
