Located in the heart of Portland, Maine’s Commercial Fishing community, Browne Trading was established in 1991 by seafood epicure Rod Browne Mitchell. Continuing his family’s long tradition of seafood trade, Browne Trading is nationally renowned for sourcing the ultimate in pristine quality, fresh seafood from our own Maine waters to those across the world. In addition to our wild harvested seafood offerings, we are proud to carry a constantly expanding inventory of responsibly sourced, farmed fish, empowering our customers to make the choice that best suits their kitchens. Many of today’s seafood menu items were first introduced to the domestic market by Browne Trading, and we were among the first in the industry to perfect optimum overnight delivery of fresh seafood.

Browne Trading Company also has a long legacy as one of the premier providers of the finest caviar in the United States. As the market for wild Caspian caviar became more and more restrictive due to the endangerment of overfishing of caviar producing sturgeon, Browne Trading was among the first in the U.S. who turned to resourcing farm raised caviar options. We are now a leading supplier of the world’s finest farm raised caviars, offering several sustainable varieties of the best quality aqua cultured caviars. Browne Trading caviar can be found in America’s elite restaurants and through many national food purveyors of distinction.

Our Portland Facility includes an on premises boutique smokehouse where we handcraft smoked salmon, fish and select shellfish. Our smokemaster, using only the highest quality fresh fish and shellfish cured in a brine of all natural ingredients which are free of chemicals, dyes, and preservatives, has taken this age-old food preservation method and turned it into an art form. Innovative ideas and use of unique flavor blends result in the most delicate and delicious smoked seafood available in the U.S.
