More about Brownsboro Community Center

The Brownsboro Community Center, Inc. is a non-profit organization formed in 1971. The purpose of the Brownsboro Community Center is that of a civic league or organization not organized for profit but operated exclusively for the promotion of the social welfare of the Brownsboro Community in Oldham County and for the members of the center, and that any net earnings of the center will not be distributed to any member, but will be devoted exclusively to the charitable, educational and recreational purposes.

The center is governed by the by-laws of Brownsboro Community Center, Inc., of which approximately 80 families are members; there are (8) eight board of directors and (4) four trustees.

The building situated on approximately 2-1/2 acres of land, was built approximately 1868 according to a date scribed on a stone gatepost located to the left of front steps. It was first known as Brownsboro College, and was a public school until 1943 when it’s students were transferred to Crestwood.

Approximately 25 interested Brownsboro residents formed the Brownsboro Civic Club and leased the property for (1) one dollar per year for 25 years, and maintained the property for the next twenty five years. The 4-H Club and the Popular Grove Homemakers have met there since the Civic Club was formed. During W.W.II the Red Cross furnished sewing machines and sewing was done here for our troops.

After the expiration of the lease, the Brownsboro Community Center purchased the property from the Oldham County Board of Education. The building was extensively remodeled adding a donated farm house to the rear of the center. A modern kitchen and bathroom now occupy that space..

Central heat and air conditioning were added and the ceiling was lowered from 14 feet to its present height. Other improvements include a added ½ basketball court, modern lighting and wiring outside, vinyl siding paved the driveway and parking area.

The Center started the Brownsboro Community Festival in 1971 as our major fund raiser to finance the renovations and it continues to be our major source of revenue for the upkeep and improvements for the Center. Our ladies cater to various civic organizations which meet here but the center is also open to wedding receptions, company picnics, and meetings. Many family reunions are held on these grounds. The Center furnished the Popular Grove Homemakers and the Brownsboro 4-H Club our facilities at no charge.

We try to provide you with the best entertainment possible at our annual festival, with as low cost as possible. The members of the Brownsboro Community Center, Inc. would like to thank you for your patronage, and for all the individuals, companies and merchants that make this event possible.
