Buchanan Dam is a census-designated place (CDP) in Llano County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,519 at the 2010 census.GeographyBuchanan Dam is located at, on the south shore of Lake Buchanan.According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 20.1sqmi, of which, 7.6sqmi of it is land and 12.5sqmi of it is water.DemographicsAs of the census of 2000, there were 1,688 people, 848 households, and 545 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 221.7 people per square mile (85.6/km2). There were 1,294 housing units at an average density of 170.0/sq mi (65.7/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 97.16% White, 0.36% African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.06% Asian, 1.48% from other races, and 0.89% from two or more races. Hispanics or Latinos of any race were 5.33% of the population.Of the 848 households, 11.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.1% were married couples living together, 4.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.7% were not families. About 31.4% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.99 and the average family size was 2.43.In the CDP, the population was distributed as 11.9% under the age of 18, 3.7% from 18 to 24, 16.4% from 25 to 44, 35.0% from 45 to 64, and 32.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 56 years. For every 100 females, there were 98.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.5 males.
