Founded in 1993, with a long history rich in tradition, Bushido Dojo is the direct descendant school of the very first Karate Dojo opened in the Nashville area by Shihan Cecil T. Patterson in 1961. Under the direction of Sensei Jimmy Edwards ~7th Dan~ Sensei Melvin Brown Jr. ~7th Dan~ and Sensei Jeffrey Ford ~6th Dan~, and Sensei Melvin Brown III ~5th Dan~, Bushido Dojo prides itself on maintaining, practicing, and reinforcing the value of traditional karate training; for both adults and children.
Emphasizing the importance of self-discipline, honor, courtesy, courage, and respect as the true hallmarks of becoming a karate-ka, Bushido Dojo’s Children's Program has earned accolades over decades, from parents, community organizations and Nashville Public Schools, making it one of the most successful, acclaimed programs of its kind in the region. Known far and wide for its austere, rigorous and spiritual approach to traditional training, Bushido Dojo’s Adult Program continues to attract students from all walks of life, with especially strong attendance from veteran and newly assigned officers within the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. In addition to traditional karate-do training and competition, Bushido Dojo also offers from certified instructors and successful competitors: MMA, Kickboxing, Boxing, Krav Maga, Modern Army Combatives, and G.R.A.C.I.E. self defense. Bushido Dojo is home to the U.S.E.W.K.F. Wado-Cup Team Champions, NASKA Kata Champion, UCC Amateur MMA 205# Champion, Toughman Boxing Light Heavyweight World Champion, Mississippi & Tennessee Toughman Boxing Champions, and World Police & Fire Games Karate Gold Medalists.
