Bussa Orchards

Peter and Mary Maravalli Ferrando immigrated from Fubine, Italy, and bought the property on Clark Hill Road in 1906. They had three children Virginia ( married to Louis Bussa sr) Elsie,( married Dominick Manfredi) and George all born in Glastonbury. Virginia was born july 9 1909 and was 13 in 1922 when her father sold the property on Clark Hill Road to Corino Bussa ... Corino and Maria Bussa immigrated from Vitale Italy to New York . They had four children Josie, Frank, Louis, and Charles. Louis was born May 1909 in New York City . Before purchasing the property on Clark Hill Road, Corino managed the J H Hale orchard. Originally, in addition to fruit, the farm produced strawberries. In the late 30s the fruit was marketed at Hartford market and some deliveries to New York City. The Bussas built the brick garage in 1922 and build the cold storage in the late 40s.... When she was 26 in 1935, Virgina Ferrando married Louis Bussa sr and moved back onto the farm and lived there till she died . The three brother operated the farm with their families. Frank married Pierina and had no kids. Louis and Virgina had one child, Louis jr. Charles and Irene had one child Joyce. The families of Louis and Charles lived in the original farm house with Carino and Maria. In 1955 the farm house was replaced by a brick duplex built in back of the original house ......Louis Jr went to UConn and graduated in 1955 and married Patricia in 1960. They had two kids David and Douglas ....... In 1987 after graduating from TCI Douglas join his father and great uncle Charlie on the orchard. ..... Today Douglas operates the 30+ ac himself with some season help ...
