More about Buttercup's Bakery

I received my very first cake pan—a ridiculously cute bear holding a first place ribbon—at the age of 11 or 12. I used that pan to make cakes for every occasion I could. Birthday? Sure! Mother’s Day? Absolutely! Last day of school? You know it! I would painstakingly cover the cake in little buttercream stars in all the exact same shades as depicted on the box. I loved that pan, and through the cavalcade of cakes my love of baking blossomed.
I eventually outpaced the cake pan and graduated to cookies, fudge, and all-things sweet. If I attended an event, I’d always bring dessert. I received great feedback and was often told, “You should sell these!” After I graduated college and worked full-time, I loved bringing snacks and treats to the office, just to see my co-workers’ smiles.
While growing up, my siblings and I spent a lot of time at my grandparent’s house. We lived mere minutes away from Evelyn and Philip; they called each other Buttercup and Putzy. My grandparents were a constant source of encouragement and support to our family. My grandmother was a phenomenal baker; the pies that woman could make! Apple, blueberry, you name it. I remember watching her at the kitchen table, wooden pastry board before her, making her delectable pie crust by hand, the air rife with the aroma of butter and apples. I regret that I didn’t take the time to listen, closely observe and learn the technique of making that crust. I make a great crust, but I bet it would be superb if I had paid full attention. Hindsight is 20/20, right?
My grandparents were married almost seventy years when my grandmother passed away in 2002; Putzy was lost without his Buttercup and passed several years later. Before my grandmother’s passing, I told her that I would own my own bakery one day and name it Buttercup’s Bakery. Years later, I’ve accomplished this and am fortunate enough to do what I love. I hope that Buttercup is proud of me and that she knows I made good on my promise.
Buttercup’s Bakery is a home-based, Board of Health approved business. I have my Business Certificate with the town and am also a member of the East Bridgewater Business Association. Maybe I’ll have a storefront someday, but as a mother of four young children, I’m happy to be home for them and my husband, for now. :)
