Runners start gearing up for the Byrd Creek 15K Trail Run at Cumberland Mountain State Park on Saturday, May 13, 2017. This 8th annual event will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the 15k Trail Run and 3.6 mile Run, which meanders through the park’s forest . For those who like shorter distances the 1.8-mile “Fun” Run will start 8:00 a.m. (please note that all times are CST).

Hosted by the Tennessee Park Ranger Association, the Byrd Creek Trail Run will benefit the Ranger Scholarship Fund and Cumberland Mountain State Park’s new Junior Ranger Day Camp for kids. All runs will start and finish at Shelter 1 in the park’s upper playground. An awards Ceremony will be 9:00 a.m. (awards will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd overall male and female)
Food and drinks will also be available.

A race T-shirt is guaranteed to all pre-registered runners. Registration will also be available on Saturday, May 7, from 6:30 to 7:15 a.m. (CST).

Entry fees are as follows:
1.8-Mile Fun Run: Pre-registration – $10 / Day of Run – $15
15k and 3.6 Mile Trail Run: Pre-registration – $25 / Day of Run – $30


Cumberland Mountain State Park is situated on the Cumberland Plateau – a segment of the great upland, which extends from western New York to central Alabama. It is said to be the largest timbered plateau in America. This 1,720-acre park was acquired in 1938 as a project of the Farm Security Administration to provide a recreational area for some 250 families selected to homestead on the Cumberland Plateau.
