Camp MuJiGae

HISTORY OF CAMP MUJIGAE - Founded in 1986

26 years ago some brave parents began planning the first Camp Mujigae (which means Camp Rainbow), which served 25 children over a two-day period. The programs have grown to serve over 300 children annually from infants to 18 yrs. old.

The last day of camp is Family Day, which is organized by the Korean Presbyterian Church. Family Day includes cultural festivities, Korean entertainment, Korean food, a store filled with Korean items and much socializing. For a number of years in a row 800 plus campers, family members and citizens from the community have attended Family Day.

The Camp could not exist were it not for the volunteers from the Korean Presbyterian Church of Albany, which conducts the cultural program. Classes include crafts, Taekwondo, cooking, music, language, history and folklore, among others. Students from Sookmyung Women's University in Seoul, South Korean also provide special classes each year.

Camp Mujigae has no paid staff. Planning has become a year round committee project and Camp Mujigae is a not-for-profit corporation with tax exempt status.
