More about Camp Rotary OKPIK Training

Formally fun under the Water and Woods Field Service Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Camp Rotary's OKPIK Cold Weather Camping is Michigan's premier winter camping training program. We're conveniently located to provide a phenomenal Northern Michigan experience.
We offer 3 levels (plus our special Veteran level) to choose from, each available for Boy Scouts, Venturers and Adult Leaders:
Level 1 - Learn the basics of OKPIK Cold Weather Camping. Sleep indoors both nights. Learn outdoor winter cooking techniques, shelter building, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Lecture and hands on. Not considered High Adventure. Level 1 Requirements: Be a Boy Scout or Venture crew for 1 year and have attended a prior campout.
Level 2 - Intermediate level of OKPIK Cold Weather Camping, and a hands-on event. The first night is refresher training of Level 1 elements and sleeping indoors. The next day and night are spent outdoors in a snow, tarp, or shelter you learn to build. Put to use techniques and skills you learned in Level 1! Experience the excitement of cooking and sleeping in a shelter you helped build. Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ice fishing activities available. Ice fishing gear is not furnished. Level 2 Requirements: You must be 12 years of age, First Class or above or a member of a Venture Crew. Have completed Level 1.
Level 3 - This is a High Adventure Level for experienced Cold Weather Campers only. The whole weekend is spent outdoors. Experience Cold Weather traveling (snowshoeing/cross-country ski trek) and cooking while you sleep in a provided shelter or one you make. Experience a test of your OKPIK Cold Weather skills during our trek challenge. You must be 13 or older, First Class or above or a member of a Venture Crew, and completed Levels 1, and 2.
Veteran- This special level is offered to participants who have completed all three levels. At a discounted rate, a Veteran participant assists with, and helps teach the Level 1 and Level 2 classes.
