More about Capability Ranch

"A dream without action is just a wish".

After our oldest son, 20, suffered a life-threatening injury in March 2013, it hit us that life is short and truly fleeting, and we needed to intentionally change our lives to do something more impactful and fulfilling that gives back. We decided to take the plunge and act on our dream to help those with autism and other developmental delays in a meaningful way.

We initially planned to open a lifelong live, work, play homestead on Capability Ranch for 6 young men with developmental delays, including our younger son Owen, 19 and autistic – but we hit some complex and insurmountable roadblocks.
Undefeated, we went back to the drawing board and re-crafted our dream, developing a new plan to help enhance the lives of our awesome community tribe of special needs children and young adults, their parents and caregivers.
We are now planning to forward with Capability Ranch as the location for an activities and events center offering unique experiences in our converted barn community room and on the ranch that promote creativity, learning, laughter and growth – where children and young adults with developmental delays, their parents and caregivers can come together for some fun.

Our calendar will feature a variety of rotating activities and events – from arts, crafts, and woodworking, gardening and cooking to seasonal and thematic learning projects, games, yoga, hiking and other outdoor activities on and nearby the ranch. We also hope to offer therapeutic as well as learning experiences with horses and other ranch animals and pets. And we will also honor those who have such a huge impact on our ‘forever children’ with special Moms-only events.

Our goal is to circulate a calendar in advance of opening our doors in the fall (2014) with an imaginative lineup of activities and events. We welcome your ideas and suggestions for fun crafts and projects and on-ranch activities. What would you like to see? And if you have a specialty you think would be a fun session, please contact us if you’d like to volunteer to lead a project or event.

As a non-profit (501c3 pending) we will be supported by donations, sponsorship and volunteers, plus a small sign-up fee for each activity to help cover materials and other associated costs.

Capability Ranch remains committed to taking action to turn dreams from wishes into reality -- and we need and very much appreciate your ongoing support.

THANK YOU all for joining us on this journey – and stay tuned for updates.

The adventure continues!

Best,

Nicola and Tony
