In 1973 The Book Exchange opened in Lansing, Michigan, USA. The owner at that time was a woman named Gina. In 1979 Paul Smith bought Gina out and renamed the store, Capital City Comics and Books, thus forming one of the very first "collectible" stores in the greater Lansing area. In 1980 Stephen Jahner came to work for Paul Smith, and in 1990 he and two partners bought Paul out. From 1990 to 2003 Stephen Jahner and his partners operated four stores in Lansing and Grand Rapids, including Apparitions Comics in Grand Rapids, with whom we are still associated. In 2003, Stephen Jahner and his then partners dissolved their corporation and closed Capital City Comics & Books. Stephen then formed a new partnership and opened a new store, Capital City Collectibles, just four doors down from our old location. We are now bigger and better than ever before, with our widest range of products ever.
