More about Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods

Who We Are
At the foundation of all CHUN does is the notion of civic participation - that we become a healthier, more vibrant community through the active involvement of the people who comprise our neighborhoods and strengthen our ability to work together toward common goals.

CHUN is:
•A neighborhood organization representing Capitol Hill for more than 31 years. Our boundaries are 1st to 22nd Avenues to the north and south, and from Broadway to Colorado Boulevard to the east and west.

•A registered neighborhood association acting democratically to involve all who care and will participate to improve the quality of life in greater Capitol Hill.

•Your neighborhood advocate representing your interests before City Council, State Legislature and administrative agencies.

•Community members volunteering to protect, preserve and enhance the quality of life within CHUN's boundaries.

•A forum for discussing neighborhood issues, including licensing, historic preservation, crime prevention, environmental concerns, neighborhood beautification, street maintenance, education and traffic control.

CHUN is Preserving the Past
CHUN has been active in helping to protect many Capitol Hill Landmarks. Among them are:

•Bluebird Theatre
•Mayan Theatre
•Ogden Theatre
•Temple Events Center
•Milheim House
•Crawford Hill Mansion
•Quality Hill Historic District
•Seventh Avenue Historic District
•Wyman Historic District
•Park Avenue Historic District
•Alamo Placita Historic District
•Humboldt St. Historic District
•Porter Mansion

CHUN is Improving the Present
•The URBAN DWELLER - our monthly newsletter informs the community of issues and activities.

•Neighborhood forums bring neighbors together to discuss and influence issues affecting them. Crime and safety concerns led to one of CHUN’s notable successes; the creation of Capitol Hill’s own police district, District Six, at Colfax and Washington.

•Tree Projects - Each spring CHUN purchases and distributes trees to Capitol Hill residents and businesses at no charge. Over 4,000 trees have been planted since 1988.

•Community Events - CHUN produces and organizes Denver's Capitol Hill People's Fair, candidates forums, Annual CHUN Wine Tasting, a National Night Out Neighborhood BBQ, a Capitol Hill Pub Crawl and more.

•Zoning Issues - The CHUN Zoning Committee stays abreast and initiates the appropriate community action regarding various zoning and planning issues affection Greater Capitol Hill. Improves the physical appearance of the neighborhood through community clean-ups, code enforcement and cooperation.

CHUN is Planning for the Future
CHUN’s strength is its active membership; people involved in making our ommunity a better place in which to live and work. This takes place in a sharing, cooperative and social atmosphere. More specifically CHUN:
•Promotes a sense of neighborliness.

•Provides a powerful and unified voice to the city and state governments.

•Encourages representation and cooperation among diverse groups.

•Works on specific neighborhood problems such as crime, housing, education, environmental issues, and developing the neighborhood plans for Cherry Creek, Uptown and Capitol Hill/Cheesman Park.

•Promotes a more positive image of the neighborhood through the Good Neighbor Awards, the CHUN Capitol Hill People’s Fair, and other events that “showcase” Capitol Hill as a great place to live and work.
