Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian art form that was developed by Africans in slave communities in Brazil. It is done to live music while combining dance, martial arts, and acrobatics. Capoeira has been a tool of building community and fighting injustice since the beginning of its development in the 16th century. It allowed its creators a voice through free body expression and music that have been telling the stories of heroes and ancestors who passed on.
