More about Caprock High School

Caprock High School is located in Amarillo, Texas in Randall, County which is part of the Texas Panhandle. Caprock is one of four high schools in the Amarillo Independent School District and classified as a 5A school by the UIL. Caprock was built in 1963 and celebrated its 50th graduating class in 2013. In 2015, the school was rated "Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency.AthleticsThe Caprock Longhorns compete in cross country, volleyball, football, wrestling, basketball, swimming, soccer, golf, tennis, track, softball, baseball, choir, and band.FootballCaprock ended a 35-year playoff drought, dating back to 1975, in 2010 with an 8-2 overall record, going 5–2 in district. Caprock had a 29-game losing streak spanning nearly three entire seasons earlier in the decade. The Longhorns implemented a spread attack with coach Seth Parr, son of rival Palo Duro's coach Steve Parr, similar to the Air Raid style offense of former Tech coach, Mike Leach. This helped markedly improve the offensive production of the Longhorns' offense over that time period.Caprock defeated their rival, Palo Duro, 34–0 for their first shutout in over a decade in the regular season finale of 2010. This clinched Caprock their first district title since the 1970s. It included blowout wins over Levelland, Borger, SA Lakeview in non-conference, and their first win ever over Hereford in OT. They ended in a 3 way tie for first with Randall and Hereford, but defeated both teams, which gives them the outright title. Unfortunately, AISD tie-breaker rules dictated a 3rd-place finish for playoff match-ups. Caprock faced a Wichita Falls Rider team with All-District RB Royster in Wichita Falls. With senior OL Benavidez out, an effort from the Longhorns, including 100 yards rushing and 70 yards receiving from Soph RB Addison Bustos, fell short in a 14–35 loss in the bi-district round of the 4A region 1 playoffs. Other standouts included OL Jessie Bustos-Lopez and QB Gerrardo Ruiz.
