More about Captured :: Pittsburgh Open Air Photography Gallery

CAPTURED::PITTSBURGH is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to building strong community bonds and fostering a lifelong love of learning through photography. We host monthly public workshops and various community events for photographers of all ages and skill levels. We work with schools in our region to provide photography gear and instruction for students. We also curate the only open-air photography gallery in the city. We are dedicated to bringing together a community of local creatives, including photographers, videographers, and graphic designers, to help beautify our city. We feature local photographs and art that highlight the city’s vast culture and amazing beauty while striving to eliminate economic barriers to further the photography and creative art scene.

Our organization also sincerely believes in the future of art and innovation in Pittsburgh. In addition to the established programs and events listed above, our new "Creative Development Program" aims to help eliminate economic barriers by assisting in funding and provide overall guidance to other artists to support their own unique creative endeavors without taking (or overtaking) their ideas...as we have noticed happen in some such incubator groups. We have built a relationship of trust with the creative community here in Pittsburgh, and we believe that trust is the foundational strength of this new offering. The "Creative Development Program" will work with local school districts to provide programs that support and encourage student interest in photography and the creative arts.

One of CAPTURED::PITTSBURGH's goals is to help beautify the city of Pittsburgh while featuring photography and art from local artists in the form of public art displays. Currently, our Open-Air public photography galleries are transforming otherwise non-descript, empty spaces in the city into galleries of vibrant, creative, eye-catching photographs. These gallery spaces located throughout Pittsburgh assist CAPTURED::PITTSBURGH in connecting with the community while promoting both amateur and professional photography side-by-side.
But CAPTURED::PITTSBURGH is more than simply another supportive arts organization. We are a community of over 2,000 family members that come from all backgrounds and every walk of life. We have built this community by both hosting events and supporting other creative projects throughout our region. Our monthly events bring local “creatives” together to network and inspire creativity among our community members, always focusing on our founding principles to Educate, Promote, and Support.

CAPTURED::PITTSBURGH also has healthy ongoing relationships with other non-profits and community groups such as Preservation Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Young Professionals, Shadyside Chamber of Commerce, and Humane Animal Rescue, and we appreciate the opportunity to aid each other in our respective missions. Additionally, we have built strong bonds with corporate underwriters such as Audi Pittsburgh, Allstate Insurance, and other local businesses to help fund our goals and keep participation cost-free and/or minimal wherever possible. We value our partnerships because they help us break down the economical barrier of participation and also help us to be more creative with the events and programs we offer. All funds donated to CAPTURED::PITTSBURGH are applied to fulfilling our promise to Educate, Promote, and Support our region's creative talents. Without this community support we could not have accomplished all that we have over since our founding.
