Carmen Sommerville Family Child Care

Carmen Sommerville Family Child Care is state licensed and provides care for children four weeks through five years. It is a clean and safe environment where children can to learn and grow. We provide exciting daily indoor and outdoor activities and believe that children learn best through play.

Breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack are provided daily for your little one(s).

While we do follow a consistent schedule for naps and meals (children thrive on consistency!), we are flexible enough to allow for child-led experiences during each day. Sometimes the things that I have planned are thrown out the window when we discover a new bug or creature in the backyard and want to spend time learning more about it, or just watching it! Certain parts of our daily schedule are consistent, but we have numerous opportunities for free play and exploration.

My daycare is not a preschool. We do not have a formal preschool program; however, I will try my best to meet your child where they are when they show interest so that they are ready for kindergarten. I won't force your child to sit down and crank out provider-thought-up crafts or worksheets just so they have a take home product. But we will work on number/letter recognition, sounds, and how to write them - all through play or informal means. My goal is for them to learn without even realizing it!

I try to focus on being a home away from home for your child while you are at work. I've worked in the center environment before and really missed the feeling of home daycare. Having a small group in a home setting allows us to move at a more relaxed pace. Sometimes kids just need a break from life to sit and read books!

I have degrees in both Elementary Education and Psychology. I worked in a group daycare during college, and after college I was the director and lead infant/toddler teacher at a center. In January 2012, I opened my own home daycare and we've been having fun ever since!
