What is Structural Engineering?

Structural Engineering is the application of equations and models in determining the ability of materials to resist various loading, combination of loadings, and the suitability of selected materials in a given project. Every project that you see, from the pedestrian bridge at the park to the glass building downtown, has started as a concept on a piece of paper. While architects develop the concept of the project, it is the duty of the structural engineer to turn such dreams into reality.

Structural Engineering is the art & science of efficiently and effectively manipulating various resources and materials to improve our lives in modern day society. It is the ability of the structural engineer to coordinate materials, monies, and manpower to develop and maintain group and business relationships, maintain and improve the local or regional infrastructure, and improve the quality of living. Carotti Engineering was founded in 2007 by Renato "Ren" Carotti, a licensed professional engineer. With prior experience as a certified welder, a wood truss assembler, quality control observer and inspector, engineering mentor and manager, Ren Carotti’s approach to engineering is to utilize a practical, common sense method in the design, construction, and investigation of projects while upholding and advancing the principles of the structural engineering field.

His structural engineering experience includes projects using structural steel, concrete, masonry, timber, and pre-engineered lumber. Carotti Engineering can provide analysis and design of custom members and connection design, structural damage assessments and structural forensic services and consultations.


A Note From: Renato A. Carotti, PE

Opening, operating, and maintaining my own structural engineering company has taught me the business side of engineering. I obtain and execute work contracts, manage business and professional relationships, and provide engineering services to clients in the construction, renovation, and damage assessment fields. I enjoy helping clients realize their projects, big or small, and look to advance the structural engineering field in my own small way.
