More about Cartegena Plaza

Cartagena Plaza is a traffic circle at the edge of the Coral Gables Waterway in the city of Coral Gables, Florida. It is commonly referred to as Cocoplum Circle because of its direct connection to the entrance of the community of Cocoplum, one of Coral Gables' wealthiest residential areas. It connects the southern terminus of LeJeune Road to the north, the eastern terminus of Sunset Drive to the west, the northeastern terminus of Old Cutler Road to the southwest, Cocoplum Road to the southeast and Ingraham Highway .It is named for the city of Cartagena, Colombia, Coral Gables' first sister city. Symbolic of this relationship is a large sculpture of a pair of old shoes, based on the poem “My Old Shoes” by Colombian-born poet Luis Carlos López and interpreted through the artistry of Tito Lambrano. The original sculpture remains in Cartagena, Colombia. A replica presented to Coral Gables in the mid-1980s is prominently displayed at the circle near the Cocoplum entrance.External links Aerial color image from Google Maps Aerial image or topographic map from MSR Maps
