At CrossFit CHG, we want you to understand a little history about the workout program and the first few steps about getting into CrossFit.

A physical trainer from California, Greg Glassman, created the concept of CrossFit in the 1970s when he noticed how bodybuilding exercises would increase someone’s physique, but not necessarily develop more effective muscles. He combined gymnastic exercises into his weight-lifting workout, eventually turning his routine into a comprehensive solution to produce capable and fit individuals. And, best of all, you can use some basic equipment at the “box” instead of spending money at a high-tech gym.

“When I was researching for new information about CrossFit, I read a great article in the Fayetteville Observer that compared CrossFit workouts to Rocky IV,” said Adam Henby, owner of CrossFit CHG on Penfield Road. “While Drago was working out in all the high-tech facilities in the ultimate gym, Rocky worked out in a log cabin near a snowy mountain top, lifting wagons and running in the snow. And then, well.. we know what happens.”

CrossFit consists of three main parts: mechanics, consistency, and intensity.

Mechanics refers to the technique of a particular exercises, ensuring that your body and any weights follow a safe procedure throughout the workout. Consistency means that you continue any movements in the same manner as before, but gradually increase your routine or repetitions as your body adjusts and prepares for another small challenge. Intensity is similar to consistency in the way that your workout should consistently increase and progress over time to show results – but gradually to prevent injuries or other setbacks.
