The History of Cathedral of Hope

From the foundations of the world, God ordained a new ministry to come forth in the year 2002. On Sunday, October 12, 2002, God opened the floodgates, and from the threshold of heaven, the Cathedral of Hope Baptist Church was birthed into existence. Ushered into the presence of the Lord at eleven o’clock, the 13 individuals in attendance were diligently awaiting the spoken word to be given by the pastor— Diante’ Waldon. The message on that day was entitled “Praising Your Way through Your Situation.” This now historic, Sunday service was held in the home of the Pastors Diante’ and Yvette Waldon.
After many hours of prayer and deliberation during the first week, the members of the church decided that their new temporary place of worship would be the Days Inn and Suites in Stockbridge, Georgia. Along with Sunday services at Days Inn, Wednesday evening Prayer and Bible Study continued to take place at the Pastor’s home. To ensure adequate representation from the congregation, the following individuals were appointed to serve the house of God: Church Administrator-Minister Yvette L. Waldon, Secretary-Sister Gwendolyn Stroud, Chairman-Board of Directors-Min. Leo T. Brown, Treasurer-Sister Valencia Thompson; Praise and Worship Leader-Minister David J. Thompson, Media Ministry Coordinator-Freddie F. Mitchell, Jr.
Upon the conception, of the ministry, Men’s and Women’s Ministries were also added and the enriched Sunday School program was developed. As we understand, Christian Education is the ministry that under girds all other ministries in the church, thereby these ministries have proven to be a blessing to the people of God.
In January 2003, the church held its first Congregational Meeting. It was
at this meeting that the long-term vision of the Church was unveiled, and the new organizational structure of the church was shared. The new organizational structure included the following three changes: Sr. Pastor-Pastor Diante’ Waldon, Co-Pastor-Pastor Yvette L. Waldon, Church Administrator-Min. Leo T. Brown, Public Relations Ministry Coordinator-Sister JoAnn Samuels, Helping Ministry Coordinator-Brother Angelo C. Samuels.
As we continued to serve the Lord in the beauty of holiness, Brother John Fitzgerald came to Cathedral of Hope to aid the growth of the music ministry as our musician. The Lord opened another door when the church signed a contract with Saints Broadcasting Network (SBN), Charter Cable channel 22, to air their services on Saturday and Sunday nights at 7 o’clock. Our new Production Assistant, DeAndre Goolsby, aided this effort..

The Lord answered the prayers of the people, when the church moved into their new ecclesia on July 13, 2003—nine months later from the first Sunday service. This moved enabled Cathedral to embark on another outreach opportunity. Cathedral of Hope is a partner with Feed My People, an organization that clothes, feeds, and provides other sources of aid to individuals in need.

As God’s fellow workers, we urge you not to received God’s grace in vain. For he says, “In the time of my favor, I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.
