Driven, inspired, and motivated by her passion for nursing and what she does, Cathy S. Uhde has built a uniquely diversified career as a nurse. She continues to perform at a superior level with Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, where she employs her extraordinary set of skills and knowledge in psychiatric and substance abuse nursing. Mental health or psychiatric nursing involves caring for people of all ages struggling with mental illness or mental distress, including bipolar disorder, depression, dementia, psychosis, or schizophrenia. As a substance abuse nurse, Cathy is specialized in pain management and helps regulate treatment for patients addicted to drugs, alcohol, or other substances. Much of her work involves teaching patients about the dangers of substance abuse as well as presenting them with the possible treatment options. While she enjoys the hands-on side of being a psychiatric and substance abuse nurse, Cathy S. Uhde also teaches at New York University. Prior to her current roles, she was a senior lecturer for 6 years until 1999 at Kuwait University and was the Director of Human Resources Development at the Hospital Corporation of American in Manila, The Philippines for two years until 1983. Cathy S. Uhde, RN, MA, is a remarkable nurse with a career that defies time and the challenges of the healthcare arena. She became a Registered Nurse in 1962, more than 52 years ago. She studied at Hunter College of the City University of New York located in Lenox Hill, New York. Fifteen years later, Cathy was finalizing her Master’s of Arts Degree in Psychiatry and Community Health. She received her MA degree from the New York University. Despite her extraordinary experience and expertise, Cathy continues to seek ways to stay up-to-date and also active in nursing. She achieves her mission through her membership with the American Nurses Association. In recognition of her outstanding performance as a nurse over more than half a century, Cathy has been included for publication into The Worldwide Leaders in Healthcare by the International Nurses Association (INA).
