More about Center for Architecture Sarasota

The Center for Architecture Sarasota (The Center) is a nonprofit organization formed as part of a partnership with The University of Florida (UF) School of Architecture. This exciting collaboration will provide a place for education, research and innovation related to architecture. The Center will include exhibit space and a lecture hall providing a venue for professional and public programs that foster creativity, create awareness and advance excellence in architecture, design and urban planning.

The UF School of Architecture has established CityLab-Sarasota, a Master of Architecture program that commences in August 2014. The design-intensive curriculum will focus on issues such as emerging technology, culture, and climate responsive architecture drawn from the Sarasota Modern movement, also known as the Sarasota School of Architecture.

The Center and its partners have acquired the ideal building in the ideal location to house both CityLab-Sarasota and The Center programs. Located in the heart of downtown Sarasota, the Scott Building was designed in 1960 by award-winning and nationally recognized architects William Rupp and Joseph Farrell. Their legacies as important masters in the Sarasota School of Architecture remain preserved in this building, one of the last remaining commercial or public projects in Sarasota designed by either architect.
