Formerly called Shelter Our Sisters (SOS), the Center for Hope and Safety (CHS) programs include: Emergency Shelter for up to 3 months; Transitional Housing for up to 24 months; children's programming in the shelter including preschool and afterschool activities; legal advocacy; housing assistance; Bilingual/Hispanic Services and assistance for women speaking other languages; Project Self-Sufficiency (work readiness training); and Followup Services. We have a program for Volunteers to be trained and be assigned to varying roles in our programs (call Gervonn @ 201-836-1075).
Project CHILD is the community-based one year creative arts therapy program for child victims, including individual/group counseling for parents, transportation to the program.
CHS has two Domestic Violence Liaisons who are DV experts working in the DYFS offices providing education and consulting on domestic violence issues. CHS provides educational programs throughout the county including a special project at Bergen Community College.
