Our Humble Beginnings

Chambers Funeral Services originated in downtown Matewan, W.Va., in the mid 1940’s nestled in Mingo, Co., W.Va. Matewan, W.Va., is proud of their heritage you will find the area not only rich in history but the families that make up our community are welcoming and encourage all to visit this landmark city. The funeral home was founded by the Reams family and was operated under the name of Reams Funeral Home. In 1963 a new facility was completed on Route 49 Hatfield bottom on the outskirts of the downtown area; and the name was changed to Chambers Funeral Home. Upon completion of the new building in 1963, Chambers Funeral Home was operated and managed by William “Bill” and his wife Kathleen Taylor. For over 40 years the Taylor family served the surrounding areas of Matewan, W.Va., with care; professionalism; and hometown hospitality.

In 2003, Booney M. Hayes and Ernest Casebolt purchased the funeral home from the Taylor family maintaining the original name of Chambers. Although the funeral home is under new management the concept of service and caring remains the same and even stronger. Our facility has been redesigned so that we may serve our families proficiently during their darkest hour. For over 60 years Chambers has served this community and will continue to strive to serve each family with compassion and affordability. We our proud of the fact that our funeral home is still independently owned and operated by local individuals who can relate to the area and the families that we serve.
