In 1995, a dedicated group of individuals led by former Chaska High School teacher Jan Baker teamed up to form a community theater with a special mission - To provide audiences a high quality, live theater experience featuring local talent, with an emphasis on family involvement - and Chaska Valley Family Theater was formed. Since that first production of “Annie,” held at the old Chaska High School Theater, CVFT has produced dozens of performances that have been enjoyed by tens of thousands of patrons. Utilizing a variety of talented local directors, CVFT currently produces three to four shows annually. While remaining true to our core offering of American musical theater, CVFT has continued to expand our traditional base by partnering with local civic organizations to produce dramatic works, and by creating opportunities for local writers to produce new works through CVFT’s New Production Workshop.
The theatre’s operations are funded primarily through ticket sales (approximately 80%), with the remaining funding from member donations and occasional grants. Actors pay a small fee to participate in productions. The group receives no ongoing government funding.
