More about Cherry Point Saddle Club

Thank you for visiting the Official Cherry Point Saddle Club Facebook page!

Cherry Point Saddle Club is located on Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, in Havelock, NC. We are a self-care equine boarding facility for active duty and retired service members.

Our facilities consist of a Front (South barn) and Back (North barn). Located down the road from each other, both barns have reasonably large pastures, lighted riding arenas, a round pen, wash racks, tack storage, hay/grain storage, some horse trailer parking and a laid back family friendly atmosphere. If space is available you may request which barn you would like your horse to reside in. Both barns have small individual sick paddocks for temporary utilization. We do not have the facilities for individual turn out.

We have members that participate in various equine activities. Barrel racing, hunter/jumpers, dressage, and just riding the trails around base (granted it’s not hunting season…). Depending on member feedback/participation, we hold cookouts, a Christmas party, scavenger hunt style trail rides, etc.!

Though we charge very little for stall board, the club and its members are responsible for all facility maintenance. Members are responsible for the daily turnout/in of their horses, feeding, watering and stall cleaning on a daily basis. Each barn has rotational chores such as cleaning water troughs, emptying trash cans and/or dumping the manure wagon. Once monthly work days (approx. 3 hours) are also mandatory with your membership. It’s a small price to pay for the convenience!

**Recently, the Environmental Protection Agency required us to discontinue use of sawdust/shavings bedding. We are ONLY permitted to use pelleted corn cob or pelleted pine bedding. We apologize if this is an issue for you, but we must abide by the rules the base sets for us. **

The Army Vet Clinic on base mandates that we follow a Herd Health Order which governs our de-worming program (every other month on a rotational basis), vaccination schedule (some annual, some semi-annual) and rules about quarantine and non-member horses visiting the property. It is currently being overhauled with the guidance of a local large animal/equine veterinarian and final changes will be posted when signed off.

Each family is allowed up to two (2) horses. If space is available, additional horses may be voted in by the club at the monthly general meetings. No family is permitted more than four (4) horses. We do not allow stallions, pregnant mares or miniature horses. Young colts must be gelded/castrated before they are allowed on property.
Our club is run by an executive committee that is voted into position on a calendar year basis. Our financial records/documents are reported on a fiscal year basis to assist with new executive committee turnover. All members in good standing are able to nominate, run for office and vote on issues that are brought up for discussion at the monthly meetings. We have a constitution with rules and by-laws to set the standards for the club. After membership is approved, all members will receive a copy of the constitution, which we encourage you to read and understand prior to settling in. All monies paid to the club are used for projects, repairs, tools, etc for the club. Bermuda coastal hay is purchased in bulk through the club and offered for sale to members. Hay is acquired when available and if we run out, it is the member’s responsibility to find and purchase hay for their horses. Feeding of any sort is not permitted in the pastures!

CHARGES AND FEES: (UPDATE!!!)
There is a membership fee of $25 with your initial entry into the club.
Associate membership fees are $50 annually. You must be sponsored by a regular member.

BOARD HAS BEEN RAISED TO $50/month/horse in an attempt to prepare for a monthly land lease that may be coming down the line from MCCS/Dept. of the Navy.

Bills are posted by the 5th of the month and due no later than the 15th of each month. There is a 10% late charge to all past due bills.

A $50 refundable stall deposit is required per horse. You will receive this deposit back upon leaving the club and checking out with the Vice President for cleanliness/damages.

Dewormers are ordered through the club and charged per horse. These are purchased in bulk for both barns. Prices vary depending on the dewormer from $5-10 per tube, we deworm every other month. This is non-negotiable.
All members and associate members are required to carry $300,000 in liability insurance at all times and to provide proof of such on an annual basis.
