More about Chico Goddess Temple

In October of 1968, Robert L. Seals received a Certificate of Ministry from the Universal Life Church. From this beginning, a dream materialized and evolved into the earth-based ideology that The Goddess Temple represents today.

In June of 1982, 10 acres of land were purchased in the foothills of Northern California. The purchase was financed by Reverend Seals. By April of 1984, Reverend Seals was conducting Sunday services centered around nature hikes into the bordering canyons of Little Chico Creek, Bidwell Park and Big Chico Creek. These gatherings developed into the spiritual exploration and vision quest that would be the foundational component of future ideology.

In August of 1992, the original Mission Statement was drafted as follows:

~The Universal Life Church of Chico, California, shall provide non-denominational environments to awaken and inspire earth-based spirituality, self nourishment, care for the commons and empowerment of women.

~Our ethics are based upon the fundamental rights of personal spiritual freedom, living liberty, ethnic equality and the pursuit of happiness. We shall reconnect people to the Godliness of nature and nature's God. By example we shall be a community role model in our efforts to live and promote sustainability and healthy lifestyles.

~We are, and always will be, a for-purpose/not-for-profit entity. We are funded by grants, donations, rental of church equipment and properties, the manufacture and sale of ecologically sustainable goods and fees collected from diverse seminars, workshops, classes and clinics.

~Our many services shall include, but are not limited to: weekly earth-based non-denominational gatherings, elevation of spiritual and environmental awareness, addiction and abuse support services, holistic healing programs, weddings, funerals, outreach services, homeless shelters, summer camps, retreats, yoga, meditation, music, art, dance and support for children's rights, needs and spirituality.
