A trained community-based School Readiness Mentor goes to the home twice weekly bringing a high quality book or and educational toy (for the families to keep). The mentor, using a non-directive approach, models reading and playing for caregivers that will enhance their child’s development, and give their child the skills they need to be successful in school and life. The program’s aim is to give the caregivers the knowledge and resources to start early education right in their own home, as their child’s first teacher.
The program is made possible through collaboration with the Muddy Brook Elementary School, and is grant funded through Berkshire United Way and The Taconic Foundation.
