Chris & Diane's Books and Things

We do not have a standard hourly operating schedule for our business. We do about 2 sales per month, unless otherwise stated on this page. Our sale dates will be announced right here on our page, along with the hours of operation for those dates.

We have noticed that some have mistaken us for "Diana's Bookstore" which is also located in Elkin, but we are not them. While we only open one or two days per month, sell only used books and sell our books at extremely discounted prices, “Diana’s Bookstore” is open daily and they have a large selection of new books, along with some used books.

My wife Diane and I own our business together, but we both have other jobs too, which means our time is limited when devoting it to our new book sale venture. We also have no employees at this time. So we appreciate our family and volunteers who have helped us get things in place, from building shelves to sorting and shelving books.

How this business got started...
As I've already said, I have another job, but in reality, our book inventory are a direct result from my other job. I've been buying books in bulk for a while, but at first, I was discarding probably 90% or more of what I was buying. I'm not a waster, so I hated having to do this. Upon some research, I decided it would be good to keep them and offer them at a great price to the community, hence our dollar book sale. I rented our space several months ago for three main reasons...to get all the stuff out of my home...to have enough room to grow...and the eventual goal of our dollar book sale. We have definitely grown bigger than I originally anticipated, at a faster pace than I anticipated.

What we offer...
Every book is $1.00 or less!!!

2 for 1 book trade in...
Bring in 2 books in good condition (excludes reference books) and exchange them for any 1 book from our inventory.

We pay for cash for college textbooks...
Bring in your college textbooks, let us assess them, and if they have value, we will make you an offer on them.

We also take donations...
If you are doing your spring cleaning and just want to get rid of some books, we will take them right here in our store. This excludes reference books.

Volunteer incentives...
We offer $10 store credit per hour of donated time to our volunteers!!! Be on the lookout for volunteer opportunities, as we make these periodic announcements on our page from time to time. This works well for you who are teachers, school librarians, and anyone else associated with the school system who can use this to your advantage.
