The Cleveland County Health Department operates and maintains the Landfill and the Recycling Centers for the citizens of Cleveland County.
Landfill Program: The Landfill Sites provides safe and sanitary disposal of all solid waste within the county, and complies with all local, state, and federal rules and regulations. Tours of the facilities are available for anyone who is interested.
Recycling Program: The Cleveland County recycling program operates in a variety of ways. The municipalities of Shelby, Kings Mountain and Boiling Springs operate their own curbside pickup. For those outside of those cities, Cleveland County offers nine manned sites around the county for the convenience of its citizens.
Household Hazardous Waste: Some items are considered unsafe for the landfill and must be handled in a special manner. Once annually the Cleveland County Solid Waste program hosts a household hazardous waste day. (April 26, 2014) If you need to dispose of these materials and cannot wait until our next hazardous waste day, please call the solid waste program at 704-447-8200 for tips on proper disposal.
