More about Church of the Little Flower

The Church of the Little Flower, now in its 91st year of service to the Catholic community of South Florida, is one of the most beautiful churches in the Archdiocese of Miami. Not only do tour buses include the Church of the Little Flower on their stops of historical sites for tourists to appreciate, but people from all over the world choose to be married here, baptized here, and attend Sunday liturgy while here on vacation.

Located in the heart of the residential section of Coral Gables, one of South Florida’s oldest and most prominent cities, the Church of the Little Flower really can’t be missed. Just down the street from the historic Biltmore Hotel, the church is known for its architectural beauty, its marble sanctuary, and the magnificent reredos which makes up the sanctuary backdrop. The Latin phrase etched above the glorious cross, “Ego sum lux mundi,” is a direct quote of Jesus found in John’s Gospel: “I am the Light of the World.” Each evening until the break of day, an illuminated cross, seen high atop the exterior of the Spanish Renaissance dome of the church, nightly announces our faith in Christ to all who approach.

Our 3,200 weekend worshippers can attest to the great solemnity and inspiration of our liturgies, the vibrancy of our community life, and the ready welcome given to those who join us along the journey. The 10:30am Mass in English with its wonderful choir, under the direction of Doctor Dawn Fontana, is a particularly beautiful liturgy, featuring the reverent elegance that has long characterized worship in the Catholic tradition. The Spanish Mass at 12:30pm, the largest Mass of the parish, is also a special experience of great reverence and beauty. Sprinkles of the Latin language, the Church’s native tongue, are often included among the musical settings used at our Masses. Truly, all can find a home at the Church of the Little Flower.
