The purpose of the Natchez Police Department is to create and maintain public safety. Although many variables contribute to the definition of safety in a community, the Department is committed to the vision of being one of the safest communities in the state by improving the quality of life for members or our community through proactive crime-prevention tactics and aggressive response to criminal activity.

Natchez Police officers take pride in representing an inclusive department, which represents the community, with high professional standards of integrity guided by the letter and spirit of the law, and the law enforcement code of ethics. Officers are required to be compassionate and responsive to the needs, rights, and expectations of all citizens, employees, and visitors.

Crime prevention is accomplished through active participation between the community and the police department with programs such as Neighborhood Watch, the Citizens Police Academy, Public Housing Officers, the D.A.R.E. program, and School Resource Officers.
