In July of 1953, Point Comfort was the third town to be incorporated into Calhoun County, and Earl L. Ermey was elected as town mayor. In 1955, a new post office and library were opened, and many other public facilities were built, including a fire station and a public pool. By 1969, the town had 6 churches, a school, and a library. In 1961, the population was over 1,000, but as of the year 2000, Point Comfort's population was at a little over over 750 people. At 1.3 square miles, the friendly town of Point Comfort has a low crime rate.
