Vision:

Today, people pass by all too often. In the future, people will stay for the wonder of it all. They will convey not only what they saw, but reveal an experience above all others in the region. There will be a multitude of community recreation facilities, surrounding a central community center that brings friends and neighbors together in celebration of the quality of life in Scappoose.

Our history will not be lost while embracing for an ever-changing future. Yes we will have a Main Street with trees, and hanging plants, classic street lamps, open and accessible markets, and street-lined planting strips that will create a warm, colorful welcome to all those visiting our little town. There will be a new tourism destination facility incorporating our vast open spaces, rich history, outdoor recreation, celebrating Lewis and Clark history and enjoying river accessibility.

This is only the beginning. Imagine if you will, connecting the west-side shopping district to the eastside in an environment dominated by rail and highway traffic. Visualize a village square filled with quaint shops, antiques, candies, espresso, gourmet foods, art, books, specialty retail and much, much more.

A look at the future also includes diversity in people and housing. There are neighborhoods and development that meet their needs, while bringing back old family values in new ways.

Oh, one more thing. People make the difference in a quality community. They now live work and play here instead of traveling to Portland on a daily basis. People who live here love it, and others are envious.
