More about Cleveland Host Lions Club

THE CLEVELAND HOST LIONS CLUB is the oldest club in Ohio, founded in 1920, and one of the first to be organized in the nation.

We are small club, but are growing and very enthusiastic that the Cleveland Host Lions Club can again be one of the service leaders in our community.

MEETINGS: The last Monday of the month from 6:15 PM until 7:30 PM, in Walsh Hall located in the old St. Augustine School Building at 1415 Howard Street, across from St. Augustine Church on W. 14th Street, Cleveland, OH 44113. A light dinner is served at no charge to members and guests.

SPEAKERS: We have quarterly educational sessions, inviting speakers to come in and present from various areas of the community.

DUES: Annual dues are $70.00.

PROJECTS: From 2002 - 2004 our Community Service initiative involved fund raising to build a home for a family with a visually impaired child. We were able to raise $15,000 and received matching funds from Lions International and Habitat for Humanity to build a home on the east side of Cleveland.

From 2004 - 2007 our Community Service initiative involved fund raising to provide a Pilot Dog (Seeing Eye Dog) to a blind member of the Greater Cleveland Area. We were able to raise $8,000 and were able to provide a dog for a visually impaired gentleman in Parma, Ohio.

The Club also supports other interests related to the Mission of the Lions, e.g. collecting used eyeglasses and hearing aids. We provide assistance to financially restricted members of the Community to obtain eye glasses, eye exams, and cataract surgery through the Lions Eye Clinic located inside St. Vincent’s Charity Hospital, as well as hearing aids through the Lions Hearing Aid Bank.

Currently, our Community Service focus is on raising money to purchase and IOL (intraocular lens) Master for MetroHealth Medical Center. This equipment will help people undergoing cataract surgery at MetroHealth.

FUND RAISING: The Cleveland Host Lions Club sponsors many types of fund raising events. These include things such as 50/50 Raffles, Nite at the Races, Karaoke Night, Gift Raffles, Wing and Beer Nights, Bus Trips to Casinos, and Wine Tastings, running a Concession Booth selling soda pop and chips at the Tremont Art Festival, and Selling Holiday Wreaths to name a few. All monies made at these events is used towards our projects and are subject to our status as a 501(c)(4) organization under the IRS Code.

Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with more than 1.3 million members in approximately 45,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.
