More about Cleveland Humanities Festival

The first Cleveland Humanities Festival will be held in Spring 2016 around a core of events taking place April 1-10, coordinated by the Baker-Nord Center for the Humanities of Case Western Reserve University. Participating institutions in University Circle and the Cleveland area will collaborate in programing on an annual theme and will support community involvement through cross-promotion. Participants include the Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland Cinematheque, Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Western Reserve Historical Society, Dittrick Museum, Maltz Museum, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cuyahoga County Public Library, Cleveland Institute of Music, Wick Poetry Center (Kent State University), Museum of Contemporary Art, Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards, Louis Stokes VA Medical Center. The theme for 2016 is “Remembering War.” The CHF will utilize the resources of Cleveland’s leading intellectual institutions to explore the impact of war on society and culture from a humanistic perspective. Planned events include: keynote lecture and academic symposium (BNC); concert (CIM); symposium on war and medicine (Dittrick); exhibit on war and popular music (Rock Hall); poetry readings (Wick); holocaust exhibit (Maltz); film screenings (Cinematheque); Vietnam war protests at Case Western (WRHS); and others in preparation. Events will take place on the campus of CWRU and at participating institutions.
