College of St. Scholastica Health Informatics and Information Management

Since founding the first Health Information Management (HIM) program in the nation in 1935, St. Scholastica has been a leader in HIM education. We continue to build on this tradition by offering excellent, rigorous programs in flexible formats for working professionals.

Currently, labor statistics indicate there simply are not enough qualified professionals to keep up with the national demand for health information managers; this situation is expected to continue. Due to the demands of the labor market and to St. Scholastica’s excellent reputation within this field, graduates of the health information management program boast a placement rate of nearly 100 percent within six months of graduation.

The HIM graduate program is structured to help advance the careers of practicing Health Information Management professionals and provide a path into the profession for those with bachelor's degrees in other fields. The program emphasizes quality healthcare data as the foundation for organizational information and knowledge management systems, and is offered in a distance-learning format which allows professionals to maintain their current employment status while enhancing their knowledge and skills.

The M.S. in Health Informatics has been developed for professionals who wish to take their bachelor's degree to a higher level in the health data field. Students will take courses such as Systems Design and Software Development, Human Factors and Usability, Healthcare Data Analytics and Project Management all 100 percent online.
