Colorado Mesa University Nordic Ski Team

Our Team History...

Our Nordic Ski Team is an emerging sport at Colorado Mesa University and we are part of the Rocky Mountain Conference in the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA). The team was started in 2008 by Tom Suplizio. There were 4 athletes on the team the first year. The team had not yet been formally recognized by CMU or USCSA so the athletes only participated in local races this first year.

2009/2010:
Dave and Christie Aschwanden began coaching the team during the 2009/2010 season, and the team became formally recognized as an emerging sport by CMU (formally Mesa State College). The team grew to 6 athletes during this race season. Of the 6 athletes on the team 4 of them qualified for Collegiate Nationals but only 3 were able to attend.

2010/2011:
During the 2010/2011 race season Christina Stark joined the coaching staff, and the team more than doubled in size to 13 athletes. The team qualified 11 athletes during this season but only 8 athletes were able to attend Nationals. The women's team placed 4th overall, and just barely missed 3rd place by 7 points. Brooke Bosman finished 7 overall and made the women's Second Team All-American! Our mens team placed 8th overall.

2011/2012:
A few of our athletes graduated last year but the team has still continued to grow this year. Dave and Christina continue to coach the team, and Christie continues to provide us with much appreciated support. We now have 16 athletes on our roster! Many of the athletes on our team are also members of the Women's Cross-Country Running Team at CMU. This year 4 new athletes from the running team have joined our team. Our season is off to a great start with some strong finishes by both our male and female athletes at our first collegiate race. We have a strong team this year. It should be another great season and we are looking forward to many more great days of skiing this year.
